Job Summary |
Columbus State University invites applications for a
tenure-track position in the Mathematics Department
Beginning August 2009. Rank open, based upon
previous experience. Normal responsibilities include
teaching four courses per semester, advising students
in secondary mathematics education, continued
scholarship, and service to the department, to the
institution, and to the community. First-year
faculty members teach three courses per semester and
get a release from most advising and service
obligations. The specialty is open.
The Mathematics Department offers baccalaureate
programs of study in mathematics, actuarial
mathematics, statistics, and secondary education; we
are also committed to maintaining a proactive role in
the mathematical preparation of K-12 teachers. We
serve a diverse student body consisting largely of
commuting students, with an average age of 25 years.

Minimum Qualifications |
Requirements include Doctorate in mathematics,
mathematics education, or statistics by August 1,
2009; commitment and potential for outstanding
teaching in general education core courses, teacher
preparation courses, and courses in the major; strong
oral communication skills; demonstrated success or
potential for teaching a racially and culturally
diverse student population; and commitment to and
potential for ongoing scholarship. ABD considered
for promising candidates who fit the department’s
strategic needs (doctorate required for promotion and
tenure); and all requirements for the Ph.D. should be
completed by September 1, 2010. College level
teaching experience preferred. A successful criminal
background check will be required as a condition of
employment. |
